Salem joined Al-Hilal's academy at age 14 and made his debut for the club in the 2011/12 season. He scored the opening goal in the first leg of the 2019 AFC Champions League final, setting up the first of two continental titles with Al-Hilal. He scored twice against Flamengo in the semifinal of the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup, as Al-Hilal became the first Saudi Arabian club to reach the Club World Cup final. His goal against Pachuca in the group stage of the 2025 FIFA World Cup made him the top Asian goalscorer in the history of the tournament.
In 2025, Salem became the first Saudi player to win the AFC Player of the Year twice, following his first win in 2022.
Al-Dawsari has achieved numerous domestic and continental titles with Al Hilal, reinforcing his status as one of the club’s enduring icons. He currently sits second on our all-time top scorer list.
On the international stage, the forward immortalised his name in world football with an historic winning goal against Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. It was his second goal in World Cups, after he also scored the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Egypt in the 2018 edition.
